The Role

As a Student Success Officer, you will play a pivotal role in the classroom, ensuring continuity of learning when teachers are absent. The majority of your working week will be student-facing in classrooms and supervised study spaces, assisting students with their learning and ensuring a calm classroom environment. You’ll collaborate with every faculty in the school, contributing to curriculum continuity while gaining valuable insight into a broad range of subjects and age groups.

The Person

Are you passionate about inspiring young people with a love of learning? Do you aspire to a career in education and seek hands-on experience in a dynamic school environment? Are you eager to join a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive community where staff and students alike are challenged to be their best?

We are seeking an enthusiastic, adaptable individual who enjoys working with young people and is committed to fostering a positive, productive learning environment. You will need:

  • Flexibility and a proactive mindset

  • The ability to adapt in dynamic situations

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with both staff and students

  • Lead extracurricular activities such as sports and after-school clubs such as sports clubs or activities of a personal interest to you

While full training will be provided, what matters most is your passion for education and helping students thrive. To support your career aspirations, we will provide support and guidance from experienced colleagues in applying for teacher training or other roles in education.

What we offer:

To support your career aspirations, we provide:

  • Dedicated weekly professional development time to explore areas of interest within the school, such as observing lessons, shadowing staff, or working in the SEND department

  • Opportunities to gain experience as a cover supervisor at a second school to broaden your understanding of different school systems and cultures

  • Support and guidance from experienced colleagues in applying for teacher training or other roles in education

  • Access to our extensive professional development programme, such as attending curriculum meetings alongside teachers

  • Opportunities to lead extracurricular activities such as sports and after-school clubs such as sports clubs or activities of a personal interest to you

  • Additional paid duties available within the school, if your schedule allows, such as summer school and holiday clubs.

We are a large, mixed, 11-18 academy with over 350 students in our sixth form. Due to our increased popularity as a school, we expanded our roll in 2018. Alperton Community School is an inclusive school with a student intake that reflects a wonderfully diverse and vibrant local community. Our students are very well behaved, work hard and are ambitious to succeed. Our most recent Ofsted inspection in July 2021 graded our school as Good "Pupils like coming to school and they enjoy their lessons"; "Pupils can focus because they feel safe"; "Leaders’ expectations of all pupils are high"; "Pupils behave well in school. They focus on their learning in lessons. Pupils follow teachers’ instructions and listen to one another".

Student progress at GCSE and A Level has been above national averages for many years with disadvantaged students performing well above national averages. Our progress 8 score has been consistently “above average”. We also see high numbers of our students’ progress to Oxbridge and Russell Group Universities. Student attendance and the percentage of students who remain in education, employment or training are also well above national averages.

Recent awards include the 2022 Pearson “Making a Difference” Award; the school was recently shortlisted for the TES School of the Year and won the TES Maths Team of the Year. We are also one of only four schools in the country to hold the Platinum Professional Development Mark.

This is an exceptional opportunity. It will offer the successful candidate a friendly, highly supportive and committed working environment within a culture of success and professional growth. The school offers excellent support for ECTs in their induction year.
