What skills and experience we're looking for
- Education experience required
- Communication & Interaction: Ability to explain concepts clearly, listen actively, and build rapport with pupils and colleagues.
- Adaptability & Resilience: Flexibility to adjust to different classroom situations and the ability to stay positive during challenging moments.
- Organisation & Time Management: Balancing lesson planning, marking, and managing classroom routines effectively.
- Behaviour Management: Understanding and implementing consistent, positive behaviour policies and fostering a calm learning environment.
- Subject Knowledge & Creativity: A solid understanding of the subject matter and the ability to create engaging, fun lessons.
- Reflective Practice: Evaluating your own performance, acting on mentor feedback, and seeking to improve.
- Professionalism & Initiative: Following school policies, acting with integrity, and proactively contributing to the classroom
* A bachelor's degree (or equivalent)
* GCSE grade 4/C or above in English and maths
* GCSE science for primary education

As a Student Teacher, you will:
- Deliver planned lessons across the curriculum, guided by an experienced mentor
- Support a diverse range of learners, including those with SEMH needs
- Collaborate with staff, parents, and external professionals
- Develop your skills in lesson planning, assessment, and behaviour management

Nigel Bowes Academy is a special school supporting young people from the age of 5-11 who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties, associated with a range of special educational needs, including autism. We are an oversubscribed school, supporting around 50 pupils on roll. We welcome pupils who reside in Dorset and Hampshire, with the majority of our pupils living in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole conurbation. Our pupils have Educational, Health Care Plans or are in the process of receiving one. We also support a small number of pupils who will be placed by the Local Authority whilst waiting for a placement in a special school or to transition back to mainstream education.
