You will empower these pupils to achieve personal academic success and fully experience everything school has to offer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide teaching staff with feedback on student progress, contribute to the planning of support activities and advise staff on specific strategies to help students thrive.
  • Promote the acceptance and inclusion of all students, helping to implement and review Individual Plans.
  • Effectively use ICT to support learning and foster student independence.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos of the school, which may include helping with supervisory arrangements during breaks or out-of-school activities.

About You

We are looking for a flexible, personable and proactive individual who can act as a positive role model for our students while upholding our school values.

You will need:

  • A good standard of general education (GCSE Level 5/Grade C or above in Maths and English).
  • Prior experience supporting pupils with individual, diverse needs.
  • The ability to work independently, take initiative and adapt to changing situations.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong, effective relationships
  • Confidence in delivering pre-planned learning activities to small groups.
  • A commitment to your own professional development and a willingness to study towards relevant qualifications.

At Downend School we provide a safe, supportive and challenging learning environment that aims to inspire and empower young people to grasp opportunity; to reach their potential and excel; to develop responsibility and integrity and to respect themselves and others.

We strongly believe in the value of creating a friendly and caring school community where youngsters feel a sense of belonging and feel valued and respected. Happy and motivated students will flourish and become successful young people. Above all, Downend is a happy school.

We can offer you:

  • A supportive trust and school community
  • Strong collaboration across the trust family of schools and access to a centralised team of specialists across all areas of school operations
  • A commitment to high‑quality CPD, with dedicated time and budget for your development
  • A values‑driven ethos where diversity, equity and inclusion are lived every day
  • Recognition of continuous service (modification order) to protect employment rights and entitlements
  • Local Government Pension Scheme with generous employer contributions and death‑in‑service cover
  • Occupational sick pay to support you during illness or unexpected emergencies
  • Family‑friendly leave packages to help maintain a healthy work–life balance
