Swimming Instructor job summary

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver structured, fun and progressive swimming lessons tailored to the needs of pupils (30mins lessons for 10 pupils per group)

  • Plan and deliver an after school swimming club

  • Provide clear instruction and demonstrations of swimming techniques

  • Regularly assess each participant’s ability and progress, providing constructive feedback to swimmers

  • Ensure safety standards are followed at all times by adhering to pool safety operating procedures, including the normal operating policy and emergency action plan

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and secure teaching environment, including checking life saving equipment and setting up/storing equipment

  • Undertake administrative duties such as recording achievements using manual or electronic systems

  • Assisting with enquiries and resolving problems professionally

  • Adhere to all safeguarding children policies and procedures


Essential Qualifications

  • A current, nationally recognised Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualification and one of the following together with site specific and regular ongoing competency assessed CPD training relative to your lifeguard/rescue qualification

  • RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)

  • STA Pool Lifeguarding

  • RLSS UK National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC)

  • STA Safety Award for Teachers
