Tallis Learning Centre Manager job summary

Thomas Tallis is a flourishing and popular school situated in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. We currently have over 2000 pupils on roll, including around 700 students in our highly competitive sixth form. We strive for excellence in all that we do, underpinned by our vision of education to understand the world and change it for the better.

Everyone at Thomas Tallis works together to fulfil our School Plan and our ambition to provide an inclusive, ambitious and enriching education so that students can understand the world and change it for the better. The Tallis Learning Centre (TLC) plays a vital role in this work. Its purpose is to identify and address the barriers that may prevent students from accessing learning, coordinate evidence-informed academic interventions, and support students to successfully engage with the curriculum and school life.

We are seeking a committed, kind and highly skilled professional to lead and coordinate the Tallis Learning Centre. This is an exciting opportunity to shape a provision that enables students to overcome barriers to learning, close gaps in knowledge and understanding, and develop the confidence, skills and independence needed to thrive in mainstream education.

Working closely with students, families, teachers, Heads of Year, curriculum leaders and the wider Inclusion Team, you will oversee the day-to-day operation of the TLC. You will develop and monitor tailored programmes of academic intervention, support students with literacy and numeracy needs, coordinate specialist support, and ensure that students receive the guidance and challenge needed to achieve their potential. You will also line manage TLC staff, build strong partnerships with colleagues and external agencies, and evaluate the impact of provision through a robust range of evidence.

The successful candidate will create a calm, purposeful and supportive learning environment where students are motivated to develop positive attitudes towards learning and make sustained progress. A key aspect of the role is ensuring that support within the TLC translates into improved access to learning across the school and successful reintegration into mainstream lessons wherever appropriate.

We are looking for someone who has:

A strong understanding of educational inclusion and the barriers that can prevent students from accessing learning
Experience of working with secondary-aged students, particularly those with additional educational, social, emotional or behavioural needs
Experience of coordinating provision for students with differing needs
Excellent behaviour management, communication and relationship-building skills
Experience of working collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, parents/carers and external agencies
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
A commitment to safeguarding, equality, inclusion and improving outcomes for young people
The ability to create a calm, purposeful learning environment and motivate students to engage positively with education

We can offer you:

Children and young people who are eager to learn and grow
A committed and collaborative staff team and inclusive school community
A school with humane management principles and a strong commitment to professional development
The opportunity to play a key role in developing provision that improves students' educational experiences and life chances

If you are passionate about inclusion, committed to helping young people overcome barriers to learning, and want to make a lasting difference to students' educational outcomes, we would love to hear from you.
