Teacher and Special Needs Coordinator (SENDCo) job summary
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a teacher/SENDCo to join our friendly and supportive team at Burntstump Seely C of E Primary Academy! Are you an inspiring and reflective practitioner? Are you keen to develop the whole child to their full potential? Are you an inspirational champion of inclusion who understands how children with SEND can thrive within a mainstream setting? Would you like to work in an idyllic, rural setting? The Governors of Burntstump Seely wish to appoint a committed, passionate and hard-working full-time teacher with responsibility as a SENDCo to join their dedicated team from September 2026. We are looking for an inspirational champion of inclusion who understands how children with SEND can thrive within a mainstream classroom and someone who will inspire and challenge our children. What skills and experience we're looking for Essential Criteria: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
The National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for SENDCos (or the NASENCo if completed/started before Sept 2024).
Evidence of experience in team leadership and the implementation of SEND policies. Proven inspirational and skilled classroom teacher and teacher of children with SEND
A champion of inclusion and demonstrable passion for supporting children with identified SEND
A clear understanding of how young people with identified SEND can be supported to achieve in the mainstream classroom
A sound knowledge of Child Safeguarding and the SEND Code of Practice.

The Role: As a key member of our team, you will oversee targeted provision for children with additional needs, vulnerabilities, or barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Teaching KS1 children in the morning and providing some PPA cover in KS2. This enable you to have first-hand experience of all of the children within school which will support you in your role as SENDCo. Please note that PPA cover is already planned for and will only require adapting for individuals.
Leading on SEND policy and practice in conjunction with all stakeholders.
Preparing statutory paperwork and making appropriate external referrals.
Working closely with professionals and supporting our highly engaged parent community.
Supporting staff with Quality First Teaching, ensuring classroom adaptations are both effective and inclusive.
