What skills and experience we're looking for

Thank you for your interest in the post of Teacher of Geography at St Nicholas Catholic High School to start in September 2023. A full time or 0.8 contract would be considered depending on the availability of the successful candidate.

We are looking to appoint a Teacher of Geography with a passion and vision for learning and teaching in Geography across all Key Stages - a highly effective practitioner who will make a difference by inspiring a love of learning in their students. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, forward thinking, and progressive department which is keen to build upon the many successes within the school’s external inspection reports from both the Diocese and Ofsted.

St Nicholas has made significant progress with the continuous development of the curriculum we deliver to our students. The successful candidate will benefit from teaching in a department which offers comprehensive and robust schemes of learning, incisive planned assessments, and is fully resourced. Coupled with this is an unwavering commitment to the bespoke professional development of every member of our teaching staff.

What the school offers its staff

The Geography Department consists of 4 members of staff. They represent a rich blend of age, experience and particular areas of interest, who work cohesively and collaboratively as a team. The department has worked closely with a range of trainee and Newly Qualified Teachers for many years, providing guidance and support to teachers at all stages of their career.

The Geography Department take a collaborative approach to resourcing for all units in Key Stage 3, 4 & 5. Responsibility for creating schemes of learning is shared across all members of the team, ensuring that staff have access to a wide range of lessons and are fully supported in their delivery of the entire curriculum. KS3, KS4 & KS5 specifications are planned to an excellent standard, to ensure all students receive the same learning opportunities, and all staff are consistent in their delivery of examined units. As a department we are also very well resourced with full sets of GCSE textbooks in each of our classrooms alongside two sets of recommended texts for the A Level Course. We are also fortunate enough to have a wide range of fieldwork equipment to support and enhance learning outside of the classroom (both onsite and offsite).

St Nicholas Catholic High School is a mixed catholic secondary school and sixth form for pupils aged 11-18. It is located in Northwich, Cheshire, and caters for approximately 1,250 pupils.

The school opened as a secondary modern in 1965, becoming a comprehensive school in 1972. It is a voluntary-aided school.
