Teacher of Music. 0.5. Permanent job summary
From September 2021 we are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Music to join this oversubscribed 11-18 school.
This is a strong department, with GCSE results of 87% grades 9-5 and 50% 9-7 in 2019.
The KS3 curriculum incorporates a range of projects using different instruments and music technology, and ensures all our students are prepared for the rigours of KS4 and KS5.
We aim to inspire students to enjoy music both in and out of the classroom.
Specialist tuition from visiting staff is offered in woodwind, brass, upper strings, harp, guitar, drum kit, keyboard, piano and voice. Brass, woodwind & string groups, orchestra, school choir and Post-16 choir normally meet weekly.
The department has a strong tradition of performance and celebrating the talents of our dedicated students in the school and wider community. An extensive programme gives students many opportunities to perform or compose during the year; some are currently working online with Orchestras Live and members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
We collaborate with the drama and art departments to produce our very successful annual school show: recent productions have included The Addams Family, Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd and Les Misérables.
We are looking for candidates who can foster a love of the subject, develop students’ confidence in their musical ability and promote the highest standards of performance, helping to embed a strong culture of music and the arts across the school and beyond.
The ability to teach to GCSE level and above is desirable but not essential.
Cockermouth School is a Safeguarding School. The successful applicant will be subject to appropriate checks and undertake an enhanced DBS.
