The Kings of Wessex Academy is in the Cheddar Valley on the southern side of the Mendip Hills and has its origins in the 18th Century when Hannah Moore established a church school in Cheddar. The school moved to its present location in the early 1960s and in 1976 it became an Upper School, taking in students within the age range of 13 - 18 years. There are currently 939 students on our roll, including a popular Sixth Form and we are proud of our traditional values, commitment to academic success and the excellent reputation we enjoy within the community.
The Kings of Wessex Academy provides a happy and caring environment in which all children can flourish. Considerable emphasis is placed on good behaviour and respect for each other. Students are taught largely in ability groups and this enables them to make good progress and receive the support they need to do well. All Year 11 students have a personal mentor who works with them to help them achieve the best grades. Extra sessions are provided by all departments at lunchtimes and after school, as well as our highly successful Easter Revision programme.
