Can you spark curiosity through choreography, and nurture compassion through character work?
Are you ready to join a school where commitment to the arts is matched by a culture of courtesy, creativity and collaboration?
If so, Thomas Deacon Academy would love to hear from you!
Your role:
This is your moment in the spotlight to take centre stage in our DAPA faculty as a Teacher of Performing Arts (maternity cover). If you live and breathe Drama and Dance, and you know how to light up a classroom like a stage, then this is your cue.
You’ll be teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to inspire at Key Stage 5 if your experience allows. But this isn’t just about delivering lessons, it’s about creating experiences. You’ll craft inclusive, high-energy sessions that challenge, support and ignite curiosity. You’ll help students find their voice, their rhythm, their confidence, and you’ll be there when they take their final bow after a school production, or when they master a routine that once felt impossible.
You’ll be a key player in our extra-curricular programme, from directing shows to leading dance clubs or vocal ensembles. Collaboration is in your nature, and you thrive in a team that shares ideas, celebrates creativity and supports one another. You’ll bring with you a recognised teaching qualification, QTS, a relevant degree, and a deep understanding of how to engage learners through the arts. But more than that, you’ll bring energy, originality and a belief that performance can change lives.
About us:
Our DAPA faculty is a creative hub where students are encouraged to explore, express and excel. We offer a range of qualifications including GCSE Drama, BTEC Dance and A Level Performing Arts, and we are committed to nurturing talent at every level.
The Academy’s Ofsted inspection in November 2024 noted that “pupils benefit from a welcoming environment where diversity is celebrated. They enjoy celebrating each other’s differences and participating in cultural activities. The school provides an ambitious curriculum that ensures pupils develop a strong foundation of knowledge and skills from Year 3 through to Year 13, preparing them well for their next stage of education or employment. The Ofsted inspection rated all areas, including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and sixth-form provision, as 'Good'”.
At Thomas Deacon Academy, we believe in the power of courtesy, commitment, compassion, courage, curiosity, and confidence. These values are at the heart of everything we do, and we are looking for someone who embodies them in their work.
