What skills and experience we're looking for

The newly appointed candidate will be working in a committed, successful and experienced team which regularly achieves strong academic success.Technical support is excellent and the department are passionate about providing practical activities at the highest standard across all Key Stages, including an externally sourced genetics project at KS5. Sharing good practise is embedded in our department ethos and the successful candidate can expect ongoing support and high levels of communication.

In 2025, our progress measure for Biology was +0.7 and this level of achievement has been consistent over a number of years. Recently, we have invested heavily in our IT facilities with all teachers benefitting from a modern SMART board and a personal laptop. The Biology team are passionate practitioners and enhance the curriculum through a number of extra-curricular activities including fieldtrips and attending guest lectures. We have an impressive record of success in national competitionsachieving gold awards in British Olympiad for Biology.

This post would suit an application from an early career teacher who would benefit enormously from strong mentoring, or alternatively from an experienced teacher who is looking to develop their skills in a new setting. The successful candidate will need to be able to teach across all age ranges and abilities. The ability to teach another subject would be desirable but not essential.

What the school offers its staff

Thank you for your interest in joining The King’s (The Cathedral) School at this exciting time. We are currently looking to appoint a Teacher of Biology who is able to teach across the age and ability range.

The King’s (The Cathedral) School enjoys a very strong reputation both within the city and the local region. As one of a small number of state schools with close links to their local Cathedral, our distinct Christian culture lies at the heart of the school. We are a single academy Trust, located close to the city centre of Peterborough, educating students from the age of seven to eighteen.

We are rightly proud of our student’s academic achievements (progress is typically in the top 5% nationally for GCSE) but the educational philosophy at the school is far broader with students encouraged to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities including Music, Sport and Drama.

We are looking to appoint a well-qualified and passionate teacher to our excellent Science team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a high achieving school, with mature and well-behaved students and where Biology is highly valued and incredibly popular subject. The appointed applicant will be part of a department that teaches all our students through to GCSE and retains very strong numbers through to A Level (typically eight to ten classes across A-Level).

For more information about the breadth of our offering and the school culture, we encourage you to read our Executive Self Evaluation Summary on our website.

Commitment to safeguarding

The King’s (The Cathedral) School fully recognises the responsibility it has under section 175 of the Education
Act 2002 (as amended), the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 (as amended) and Education
and Training (Welfare of Children) Act, 2021 to have arrangements in place to safeguard and promote the
