What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking applications from a dedicated, hardworking, highly skilled and knowledgeable teacher to join our Science department. We are a mixed 11-18 non-selective converter academy with approximately 835 students. Uplands Academy converted to an Academy in September 2022 and became a member of the MARK Education Trust (formally Beacon Community College Academy Trust). The acronym MARK was selected because staff who work in the trust are motivated, ambitious, resourceful, and knowledgeable. This partnership will provide many exciting opportunities for professional development, and the sharing of good practice across the two schools. This is the start of a new era for Uplands and an excellent time to join our thriving rural school.

We work meticulously to secure a culture of unapologetically high expectations that are underpinned by our collective, uncompromising belief and ambition for the students of Uplands Academy, and for the experienced, loyal, highly skilled and highly effective team of staff that teach them, allowing teachers to teach and students to learn. The Academy and the department of Science are committed to the development of both its staff and students.

What the school offers its staff

At Uplands Academy, the relationships between our staff and our students are excellent and ones that we are proud of. Our staff have high expectations, are ambitious for our students, and they know them well. We pride ourselves on our rigorous focus on the child as a unique individual, including our most disadvantaged and those with SEND. We ensure that the lessons that our students receive are personalised and inclusive, enabling them to be actively engaged in their learning. We want our children to be happy, successful, and confident by providing the best possible education for all our students. We want to be an exceptional educational establishment for our community.

MARK Education Trust takes a leading role in recruiting and training new entrants to the profession. We invest in our teachers through our Early Career Teacher (ECT) programme and have chosen to partner with UCL and Sussex Coast Schools Alliance for the delivery of the Early Career Framework and with Brighton & Hove Education & Enterprise Marketplace as our Appropriate Body. High quality professional development is a priority, and we have seven Specialist Leaders of Education across a variety of areas on our staff body.

Commitment to safeguarding

All posts are subject to DBS enhanced clearance, health checks and satisfactory references. MARK Education Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
