Teacher - Resource Base job summary
The Avenue Primary School and Children’s Centre is looking for a confident and experienced Teacher to work in its dedicated Resource Base on a maternity cover contract, with effect from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about encouraging children of all abilities to thrive, working closely with our SEND pupils to facilitate their integration into mainstream classes. Strong knowledge of the Early Years curriculum is advantageous for the role.
Contract: Maternity, effective September 2026.
We are a vibrant co-educational, non-denominational primary school, educating children between the ages of 3 and 11. Located in the charming garrison town of Warminster, Wiltshire, our staff are dedicated to creating a safe and exciting place for children to thrive and learn. Our school values of respect, kindness and honesty are central to everything we do and are at the heart of a strong sense of belonging for all in our school community. We take the success of every child very personally and offer a wide range of opportunities to help them develop as confident individuals. In April 2024, we were proud to have retained our ‘Good’ Ofsted rating and were praised for being a fully inclusive school where pupils are resilient and strive to be the best they can be. We are part of the Acorn Education Trust, which provides exciting opportunities to collaborate and improve local education.
As a Resource Base Teacher, you will teach small classes within our resource base, supporting the learning and development of children requiring SEND support, including those with learning difficulties, speech, language and communication needs, and will make a real difference to their school lives. QTS status is essential for the role, as is experience in SEND.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is committed to developing expertise in the teaching of pupils with complex cognition and learning needs;
- Is able to plan and teach a broad range of engaging and effective lessons that motivate, inspire and improve student attainment across a range of activities;
- Can ensure that teaching is broad, balanced, relevant, motivational and appropriately differentiated in order to maximise the academic potential of pupils;
- Can demonstrate effective behaviour management;
- Is able to forge good relationships with students, parents, school staff and outside agencies;
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills with high levels of emotional intelligence;
- Has good knowledge and awareness of current initiatives in the Early Years / Primary Curriculum;
- Has experience working with children/young people with SEND;
- Is an effective team member who can contribute positively to our Resource Base provision and across the wider school community;
- Is positive and adaptable with a good sense of humour;
- Has a desire to work within the Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) structure.
We can offer the successful candidate:
- An ambitious and vibrant place to work, with enthusiastic children and staff who are passionate about learning;
- A workplace where everyone feels valued and supported;
- Opportunities for training and progression;
- The support of Acorn Education Trust, with excellent opportunities to work with experienced colleagues;
- A supportive and clearly defined induction procedure.
