What skills and experience we're looking for

Stretham Community Primary School are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team and become part of our welcoming school family. The role will predominantly be working 1:1 with children with SEND. At Stretham, our vision is “Achieving potential together as a school family”, and we are looking for someone who shares our commitment to being courageous, compassionate, curious, resilient and inclusive. If you are passionate about supporting children to flourish, celebrating their successes and helping every pupil, including those with SEND, to reach their potential, we would love to hear from you.

Stretham Community Primary School has strong, purposeful and reciprocal links with our children, teachers, parents and our local community. The children at our school sit front and centre of all we do, and we aspire to create a nurturing, inclusive and safe environment for each member of our school family. We are committed to ensuring that every child, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), feels valued, understood and supported to achieve their potential.

The post will be centred around offering 1:1 support for children with SEND and the opportunity to have a measurable impact on the learning, wellbeing and development of the children you are working with. You will play an important role in supporting children with SEND, working alongside teachers and other colleagues to provide appropriate support, encouragement and challenge. We are looking for someone who can recognise and celebrate individual strengths, respond sensitively to individual needs and help children develop their confidence, independence and resilience. In addition to TA responsibilities, the role will also include supervising and supporting children across the school at lunchtime.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has high expectations of safeguarding the welfare of all children and young people under our care.
  • Is committed to supporting all learners, particularly children with SEND, to reach their potential and encouraging them to be their very best.
  • Is compassionate, patient and empathetic, with an understanding of the importance of building positive and trusting relationships with children.
  • Is adaptable and flexible, responding positively to the individual needs of learners and different situations.
  • Demonstrates initiative and is able to identify ways to support and encourage the learners they are working with.
  • Is curious and willing to develop their understanding of SEND, different learning needs and effective strategies for supporting children, including supporting elements of personal care.
  • Is resilient and able to remain positive and solution-focused when faced with challenges.
  • Has high expectations of themselves, both personally and professionally.
  • Is inclusive and committed to ensuring that every child feels valued, listened to and able to participate fully in school life.
  • Has a great sense of humour and values being part of a welcoming and caring team.

What the school offers its staff

If you believe you have the necessary characteristics, personality and drive to join our school family and believe that you can help to support our children’s academic, social, emotional and holistic development, including those with SEND, in an environment that is nurturing, happy and caring, we can offer you:

  • Polite, enthusiastic and motivated children who aspire to be the best they can be.
  • A commitment to support you with your professional development, including developing your knowledge and understanding of SEND.
  • A hard-working and dedicated staff team who care about the children and support each other to be their very best.
  • An opportunity to play a key role in shaping and driving some key areas on our school development journey.
  • A school community that is supportive and positive, with the children sitting front and centre.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives, learning and wellbeing of children, including those with SEND.
