What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking a caring, committed and skilled Teaching Assistant to join our Adapted Provision/Support Base team. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside an experienced teacher and Speech and Language professionals to support a small group of children with communication and language needs, autism and additional learning needs within a mainstream school setting.

The successful candidate will play a key role in helping children access learning, develop communication skills and make progress towards their individual targets. The role will also involve supporting children with personal care and intimate care needs, ensuring that all pupils are treated with dignity, respect and compassion.

We are looking for someone with experience of supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly autism and communication and interaction needs. The ideal candidate will be patient, adaptable and committed to providing the highest standards of care and support, enabling every child to thrive and reach their full potential.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of supporting children with SEND, particularly autism and communication and language needs.
  • Understands the importance of communication, interaction and relationship-building in supporting children's development.
  • Can provide high-quality support tailored to individual needs and next steps.
  • Is confident supporting children with personal and intimate care needs whilst maintaining dignity and promoting independence.
  • Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, including teachers, Speech and Language Therapists, parents and external professionals.
  • Demonstrates patience, resilience, empathy and a nurturing approach.
  • Is committed to inclusive education and ensuring children with additional needs can successfully access a mainstream environment.
  • Communicates effectively with parents and carers, recognising and valuing their role as their child's first educator.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

What the school offers its staff

  • Wonderful children who are enthusiastic, unique and rewarding to work with.
  • A highly skilled, supportive and welcoming staff team.
  • The opportunity to work within a well-established and developing adapted provision.
  • A modern, well-resourced learning environment.
  • Ongoing professional development and training opportunities, including SEND-specific training.
  • A school community that is committed to inclusion, wellbeing and ensuring every child achieves success.
