Teaching Assistant - Supporting Pastoral job summary

About the Role

15 hours 35 mins per week - term time (afternoons)

As a Teaching Assistant supporting pastoral care, you will play a vital role in helping pupils overcome social, emotional, and practical barriers to learning. Working closely with the pastoral team, you will provide one-to-one and small group support to promote wellbeing, self-esteem, and mental health. Your work will include:

  • Delivering targeted pastoral interventions that help pupils flourish emotionally and socially
  • Supporting pupils during key transition periods to ensure continuity and confidence
  • Collaborating with teachers to adapt classroom activities and behaviour strategies to meet individual needs
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, parents, staff, and external professionals to provide consistent, caring support
  • Assisting with personal care, first aid, and the development of individual learning and behaviour plans

This role is pivotal in creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every pupil is encouraged to be their best self.

About You

We are looking for someone who is compassionate, patient, and committed to making a difference in children’s lives. You will have:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally with pastoral or SEND support
  • A good level of literacy and numeracy (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent)
  • The ability to connect warmly and effectively with pupils, colleagues, and families
  • A keen understanding of the emotional and social challenges pupils face and the confidence to support them sensitively
  • Flexibility, teamwork skills, and a willingness to learn and grow professionally
