Full Time Equivalent Salary:  £31,954 - £34,860 (CLF Grade D) based on full time hours, all year round

Actual Annual Salary:  £27,362 - £29,851 based on hours and weeks worked

Contract Type: Permanent 

Hours: Full-Time, Term Time Only, 37 hours per week

The Therapeutic Learning Mentor is the key contact for a range of our students - this could include a year group or another defined group of students. This role will be responsible for monitoring the welfare and school experience of their cohort of students and play a key role in identifying safeguarding issues. Ensuring the behaviour policy and the attendance policy is always implemented for all students. Acting as a positive role model and ensure that all students have their best chance to thrive is an essential part of why we have created this opportunity.

About you:

You will be:

  • A passionate individual who wants to be a part of transforming education and will make an active contribution to the development of the Cabot Learning Federation and The Sky Academy. 
  • Able to establish effective relationships with designated students both 1:1 and in groups, utilising specialist and developed skills and techniques to ensure all students make progress in line with their objectives and achieve their potential.
  • Happy to support young people to develop a wider educational, social, and cultural understanding of life.
  • A strong communicator with the ability to embrace change and motivate colleagues and students.
  • Competent in literacy and numeracy (evidenced by GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above, equivalent qualifications and/or experience).
  • Experienced or hold knowledge of specific learning difficulties such as SEMH, ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia to support the learning of students with such difficulties.
  • Safeguarding is a key area of this role, and you will be required to act as a Deputy DSL. Candidates will need to be trained in Safeguarding to at least Level 3 or willing to undertake Local Authority Training.

Please note: the ability to attend meetings and students homes is an essential part of this role so a full driving licence and use of vehicle will be required.

Sky Academy is a special school for young people in years 5-11 who have an EHCP to support their SEMH and SCL needs. Located in Taunton, our catchment of young people comes from those who live within a 75-minute drive across Somerset. At our core is a belief that every young person deserves the right to an educative experience that prepares them for adulthood and opens doors at post-16. We do this by providing a targeted core curriculum that focuses in equal parts on literacy, numeracy, PSHCE, and PE in addition to a wider curriculum of art, ICT, careers and life skills.
