Voice Tutor job summary
In this role you will:
Lead, develop and deliver an engaging and inclusive voice programme for pupils in Years 2-6, fostering healthy vocal technique, musical confidence and expressive singing across a range of styles.
Have a positive impact on pupils’ musical achievement, confidence and participation in music-making
Work collaboratively with pupils, parents, school staff and the Music Lead to support high-quality musical outcomes.
This is an opportunity to contribute to a Trust that is deliberate about how it improves practice and outcomes.
Compass Eko Trust is a family of 28 schools working as one system to improve outcomes for every child. We are united by a clear commitment: every child achieving, without exception.
Through a knowledge-rich curriculum, strong professional collaboration and a shared commitment to excellence, we support our schools to deliver high-quality education in their communities.
Our schools sit at the heart of everything we do. The Trust exists to bring clarity, consistency and support so leaders can focus on what matters most - teaching and learning.
We are seeking to appoint an experienced and committed Voice Tutor. Music is an essential part of our curriculum and school ethos. All children receive weekly class music lessons with our experienced Music Lead. In addition to this provision, pupils can choose to learn an instrument with our visiting music tutors. Currently we offer tuition in piano, violin, cello, guitar, flute and drum kit. The school has a strong reputation for singing, with several choirs and a history of children performing at prestigious events and venues.
We are looking for a vibrant, caring and dedicated Voice Tutor who can inspire and motivate pupils with a wide range of abilities and levels of confidence. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of healthy, age-appropriate vocal pedagogy, including breath control, natural tone production and vocal development. They will be confident teaching a range of musical styles whilst prioritising sound technique, musicality and expressive singing over stylistic imitation. An understanding of classical vocal principles and their application across different styles would be welcomed; formal classical singing training is not a requirement.
The work of our music tutors is fully integrated into the wider music curriculum. Pupils will bring experience of classroom singing, musical notation and ensemble music-making, with varying levels of prior vocal tuition. We value a supportive partnership between our visiting tutors and the Music Lead, helping children develop confident, healthy voices and a lasting enjoyment of singing.
The number of teaching hours will vary according to pupil demand. The post is initially estimated at 4 hours per week, with scope to increase to approximately 7 hours as the voice programme grows.
As part of our Trust, you will be part of a professional community where:
- Schools work together, sharing expertise and improving practice
- Staff benefit from strong professional networks and collaboration across schools
- Development is supported through coaching, CPD and leadership pathways
- You are not working in isolation - you are part of a wider system
Our offer:
- Competitive pay and conditions aligned to national frameworks
- Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
- Access to a structured programme of professional development
- Opportunities to work across schools and develop your career
- Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 confidential support
- Access to staff benefits and discount schemes
Family-friendly policies and flexible working options where possible.
