What skills and experience we're looking for

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience of teaching in Key Stage 1, ideally Year 1
  • Secure knowledge and understanding of the Year 1 National Curriculum
  • Experience of teaching phonics (Read Write Inc, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of early reading, writing, and mathematics development
  • Ability to plan, deliver, and assess engaging lessons that meet the needs of all learners
  • Experience of effective classroom and behaviour management
  • Ability to create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Experience of assessing pupil progress and using assessment to inform planning
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate well with colleagues and parents
  • Good organisational and time-management skills

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience teaching Year 1
  • Experience supporting children through the EYFS to KS1 transition
  • Experience working with children with SEND and implementing support strategies
  • Experience of working in a Church of England or values-led school
  • Familiarity with assessments
  • Confidence in using a range of teaching approaches to engage young learners
  • Willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school
