What skills and experience we're looking for
Essential Skills and Experience
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience of teaching in Key Stage 1, ideally Year 1
- Secure knowledge and understanding of the Year 1 National Curriculum
- Experience of teaching phonics (Read Write Inc, or similar)
- Strong understanding of early reading, writing, and mathematics development
- Ability to plan, deliver, and assess engaging lessons that meet the needs of all learners
- Experience of effective classroom and behaviour management
- Ability to create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
- Experience of assessing pupil progress and using assessment to inform planning
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate well with colleagues and parents
- Good organisational and time-management skills
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Previous experience teaching Year 1
- Experience supporting children through the EYFS to KS1 transition
- Experience working with children with SEND and implementing support strategies
- Experience of working in a Church of England or values-led school
- Familiarity with assessments
- Confidence in using a range of teaching approaches to engage young learners
- Willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school
