Job Description for class teacher (MPS)
JOB PURPOSE
The primary purpose of this post is to:
- teach a class of pupils, and ensure that planning, preparation, recording, assessment and reporting meet their varying learning and social needs;
- maintain the positive ethos, core values and Christian distinctiveness of the school, both inside and outside the classroom, being a positive role model at all times;
- contribute to constructive team-building amongst teaching and support staff, parents/ carers and governors;
- contribute professional knowledge and skill to the development throughout the school of specific activities or subjects.

OBJECTIVES
- To raise standards of pupil achievement across all subjects and areas.
- To have secure subject knowledge and ensure pupil entitlement to all elements of the National Curriculum and religious education.
- To set high expectations to challenge and inspire pupils, ensuring pupils make good progress.
- To assess pupils at agreed intervals using appropriate and agreed methods, assessing pupils’ work thoroughly and using assessments to move pupils learning forwards.
- To implement agreed school procedures for marking and feedback, assessment, target setting and reporting, including meeting all deadlines.
- To help pupils understand what they are learning, how well they have done and what they can do to improve.
- To use a range of appropriate teaching strategies that will motivate and stimulate children in their learning.
- To differentiate tasks appropriately in order to meet the needs of all pupils.
- To set an appropriate pace of learning so that pupils are productive and work at a good pace.
- To create opportunities in which pupils are able to sustain concentration, show interest in their work and think and learn for themselves.
- To provide a purposeful, well-organised, stimulating and positive learning environment, which reflects the ethos of the school.
- To establish positive supportive relationships with both pupils and colleagues.
- To implement agreed reporting procedures.
- To implement, support and uphold agreed school policies and guidelines.
- To maintain pupils well, achieve high standards of behaviour and respect for others, in accordance with the school's behaviour policy encouraging children to take responsibility for their actions; to promote understanding of the schools rules and values; to safeguard health and safety; and to develop relationships with and between pupils conducive to optimise learning.
- To lead, organise and direct support staff within the classroom as appropriate.
- To undertake personal professional development in accordance with the School Improvement Plan, and LA/DFE initiatives.
- Participate in staff training, attend staff and team meetings.
- To report to the Senior Leadership Team as appropriate
- To report to the Governing Body as appropriate
- To plan and implement parental involvement
