What skills and experience we're looking for

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Administrative Assistant/Receptionist to join our school community. We are seeking a friendly, organised and professional individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills to become part of our dedicated and supportive team.

This varied role will be front-facing, welcoming visitors to the school, managing telephone enquiries, supporting colleagues with a range of administrative tasks.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys working as part of a hardworking, collaborative and committed team.
  • Is highly motivated, proactive and able to use their own initiative.
  • Is patient, approachable, flexible and possesses a good sense of humour.
  • Is eager to learn and develop their skills and experience.
  • Has strong ICT skills and is confident using a range of digital systems and applications.

Working in a busy and vibrant school office, no two days are ever the same. This is a varied role where priorities can change quickly, requiring someone who is organised, adaptable and able to remain calm under pressure.

Mary Webb School and Science College is situated in a particularly beautiful location in the village of Pontesbury, just a few miles south of Shrewsbury. Our most recent published results saw 65% of our students achieving GCSEs in both English and mathematics at grade 4 or above, with 43.8% achieving GCSEs in English and mathematics at grade 5 or above. The school’s Attainment 8 score was 47.9, which was higher than the Shropshire average for secondary schools, with our Progress 8 score being +0.08. Most importantly, all our students were able to go on to the destinations they planned to in September 2025.
