Administrative Officer with Responsibility for Attendance job summary

Fortismere School is looking to appoint an Administrative Officer with Responsibility for Attendance. This is an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated administrative team. Operating as a crucial hub for student welfare, you will play a pivotal role in driving the whole-school attendance strategy, fostering a strong culture of attendance, and managing the daily registration process.

While this is a specialised administrative focus, you will not be working in isolation. At Fortismere, tracking and supporting attendance is a collaborative commitment; you will be backed by a supportive Admin Lead, the Parental Engagement and Student Attendance Lead, and a dedicated staff community focused on student engagement and success.

The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues across the school to ensure all attendance processes are robust, clear, and applied consistently. The role will include conducting first-day absence contact via SMS and telephone calls, ensuring all registers are accurately completed, managing the daily fire register, and monitoring lateness to deploy early intervention where necessary.

We are looking for an organised, resilient, and proactive individual who is passionate about education and understands the complex issues affecting student attendance. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, numerical proficiency, and the ability to build positive, supportive relationships with families, staff, and external professionals under minimum supervision.

The successful candidate will have the ability to:

  • Support and drive the whole-school attendance strategy and a positive culture of attendance.

  • Manage the daily registration process and ensure the correct recording of all attendance codes.

  • Communicate effectively and swiftly with parents/carers regarding absences, sickness procedures, and punctuality.

  • Efficiently utilise SIMS (or other school MIS) to input data, produce fire registers, and prepare attendance reports.

  • Act on own initiative to prioritise workloads, meet strict deadlines, and work under pressure in a busy office environment.

  • Analyse attendance data to identify key trends and areas for targeted improvement.

  • Maintain absolute confidentiality and adhere strictly to data protection and safeguarding requirements.

  • Contribute positively to the inclusive ethos and wider life of the school.

We can offer:

  • A welcoming, supportive, and collaborative working environment.

  • A highly experienced and dedicated administrative and pastoral team.

  • Ongoing professional development, including regular SIMS and operational training.

  • Pension scheme, Cycle Scheme, Season Ticket Loan, Tech Scheme, and Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).

  • Happy, motivated students who enjoy learning and being part of the school community.

  • A committed Governing Body and experienced leadership team.

Fortismere School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
