What skills and experience we're looking for
This is a great opportunity to help lead The Misbourne’s mathematics team for the right candidate. The Misbourne is an aspirational and friendly place to work where every student and member of staff is a valued member of our community. The Misbourne is an 11-18 Academy in the picturesque village of Great Missenden in the heart of the Chilterns, and is the Lead School for Careers in Bucks. We have nearly 1100 students on roll, including a successful and growing Sixth Form. Our staff tell us they genuinely feel like part of a team; a team who are striving to help each student flourish both academically and personally. Excerpts from our pleasing 2022 Ofsted inspection include:
Students told inspectors that the clear and fair behaviour system helps them to behave well.
Relationships between staff and students are strong.
Students’ conduct around the school is orderly and calm.
Pastoral care puts the child at the heart of everything the school does. Whether you are early in your career or looking for your next challenge, our Maths department has a breadth and depth of experience, with colleagues who thrive in a hard-working, friendly and innovative team built over many years. With strong and consistent leadership you can be assured of a genuine commitment to supporting your day-to-day practice and long-term professional development. We are a Google school, incorporating blended learning within our lessons, and have developed our fully resourced curriculum to ensure it fully supports the needs of our learners. Mathematics is a popular A-level subject at The Misbourne and each year we have students achieving top grades at both GCSE and A-level.
We provide extensive support and career development opportunities: the vacancy has arisen due to our current Assistant Curriculum Leader achieving promotion.
As Assistant Curriculum Leader for Mathematics, you will be in a job that will motivate and challenge you in equal measure. You will work closely with the Curriculum Leader to lead and develop our curriculum, teachers and systems to ensure that our students are getting the highest calibre of education in mathematics.
You will be working alongside a strong and aspirational Curriculum Leader and a supportive team of middle and senior leaders. We will work closely with you to support your career goals and offer high-calibre CPD and opportunities for future promotion within your subject and the wider school. Within the team, we currently have one ECT teacher who trained with us previously, and the rest of the department are experienced subject specialists.
If you want to be an Assistant Curriculum Leader, but wants to join a team of driven and capable mathematics teachers, with a focus on development of practice and a potential future for advancement, please do contact us.
Our values at The Misbourne for both students and staff are learning, kindness and excellence; these permeate everything we do, starting with our staff. We acknowledge that teaching is a demanding profession and therefore looking after our staff is of highest priority. If you join our staff team, you will be part of a caring, kind and supportive group of professionals who really do share a sense of belonging and camaraderie.
We have a fully planned and resourced centralised curriculum, and we have development time across the year so that the team can collaboratively plan and talk about teaching; continuing to develop professionally and reducing workload. We take an evidence-informed approach to school improvement, only implementing what we feel will make the biggest difference to the lives and outcomes of our young people, being mindful of staff workload and well-being. Our Wellbee survey results place The Misbourne in the top 10% of schools for staff peer support, and top 20% for managing staff workload.
