Assistant Principal (SENDCo) job summary

Work where it matters most, achieve what matters more.

Be part of a team where passion meets purpose, as we work together where the challenge is greatest to change the lives and build the futures of children and young people.

At Ormiston Latimer Academy, we're looking for a committed, driven and experienced Assistant Principal (SENDCo) to join our senior leadership team. This is a permanent post (L10-L14) reporting to our Head of School, and it's a really exciting time to join us: you'll oversee and line manage our new Special Resource Base and help shape what inclusion looks like here for years to come.

Day to day, you'll be the person colleagues, families and external agencies turn to on all things SEND. You'll lead our whole-school SEND strategy, carry out assessments and classroom observations, design and deliver interventions, and work alongside teachers, parents and professionals to build individual support plans that make a real difference. You'll make sure every learner with an EHCP gets everything they're entitled to, use data to guide key decisions, and coach and train colleagues so that great SEND practice runs through every classroom. As a deputy safeguarding lead and member of SLT, you'll play a full part in the life and running of the academy - and you'll keep a foot in the classroom with your own teaching timetable.

We'd love to hear from you if you're a qualified teacher with a successful track record in an inner-city school, experience of supporting young people with ASD and SEMH needs, and an up-to-date knowledge of SEND policy and practice. A SENDCo qualification would be a bonus, but what matters most is your passion for helping young people overcome barriers, your ability to bring people with you, and your belief that every learner deserves to thrive. If that sounds like you, we can't wait to meet you.

Ormiston Latimer Academy is an alternative provision school in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, serving learners aged 11-16. The academy’s vision is to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where strong relationships are the foundation of learning, aspiration is encouraged in every individual and support is tailored to empower all learners to thrive.

Located in Kensington and Chelsea, Ormiston Latimer Academy provides a caring environment based on integrity, mutual respect and understanding. We seek to reignite passion for education and aspiration in every young person. Each learner is treated as an individual and is supported within an environment that develops a love of learning alongside the social and emotional skills needed for life beyond education.

We are a small provision supporting learners who are at risk of, or have been excluded from, mainstream settings. Our specialist approach focuses on developing young people’s capabilities, their potential for employability, their ability to build healthy relationships and to make safe, positive life choices. We believe that success for our young people comes through personalised support, high expectations and strong, trusting relationships.

Our approach considers each learner’s educational experiences to date, their social and emotional wellbeing, mental health, family context and any special educational needs (SEN). We work closely with professionals, families and external agencies to ensure our support is holistic and impactful. We are proud of the caring, supportive and inclusive environment we provide, enhancing our learners’ quality of life and supporting them to realise their aspirations.

Ofsted (November 2025) commented:

“Pupils are fortunate to attend this school. Here, they mend their relationship with learning, forge trusting relationships with adults and feel valued.”
