Behaviour Support & Supervision Officer job summary

We are looking for a confident, consistent, and highly organised individual to join our team as a Behaviour Support and Supervision Officer. You will need to find the right balance between kindness and upholding firm boundaries to support our students to understand and meet our high expectations which are non-negotiable.

You will need to:

  • Apply behaviour systems fairly, consistently and authoritatively in line with school policies
  • Ensure our children feel safe and listened to, while instilling firm boundaries and clear actions for support
  • Communicate professionally with parent/carers to ensure they are clear on the actions being taken by the school
  • Rigorously investigate, record and track incidents ensuring that they are followed up with precision and accuracy
  • Be able to supervise groups of students, challenge misbehaviour, and de-escalate incidents where needed
  • Skilfully deescalate a dysregulated child and support them to understand the issue at hand
  • Know when to escalate concerns, and when to resolve them on the spot
  • Uphold the school’s culture through presence, language, and high standards

Our BFL department set the ethos and culture of our school. The role is demanding and purposeful. It requires emotional intelligence, resilience, clarity and rigorous implementation of the behaviour policies. We have high standards at Kingsmead School that we expect both students and staff to uphold.

What You’ll Need

  • Grade C/5 or above in GCSE English and Maths
  • Experience working with young people, ideally in a school or structured setting
  • Excellent organisation, attention to detail, and strong written communication
  • Confidence in managing behaviour, holding boundaries, and applying rules
  • A positive, calm, and professional manner – especially under pressure
  • Familiarity with behaviour and safeguarding systems (e.g. Arbor, CPOMS) is an advantage

What You’ll Get

  • The chance to shape the behaviour culture of a school that does not compromise on standards
  • A strong, supportive team with clear systems and shared purpose
  • A role where your consistency and authority will make a real difference
  • Regular training and development focused on behaviour, leadership, and systems

Kingsmead is a large, mixed, oversubscribed school – easily accessible from both central London and surrounds – with loyal staff, an established standing in the community and a very strong track record. We are consistently above average in Progress 8 and A Level value added, with high Ebacc entry and a wide range of options at KS4 and KS5. Those outcomes are built on a calm, purposeful and collaborative atmosphere.

Despite the school’s size and standing, the Headteacher was appointed relatively young after experience of leading for a high-performing academy chain and in one of the most successful London boroughs. He has restarted the school culture and approach over the last few years and is determined to push it forward from being in the top 20% nationally to being somewhere where things are achieved others do not think possible.
