What skills and experience we're looking for

Experience

  • Proven ability as a good or outstanding classroom teacher
  • Secure understanding of early years pedagogy including characterstics of effective learning, ShreC and OWL approaches to learning to provide the highest quality learning for all learners
  • Secure awareness of both KS1 and KS2 pedagogy

Education and Training

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Early years experience – understanding of foundational knowledge for young learners
  • Evidence of participation in professional development

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and appreciation of current issues and developments in education
  • Knowledge of what constitutes outstanding teaching and learning
  • Secure knowledge of the early years framework
  • Secure knowledge about early years pedagogy including assessment towards Good Levels of Development
  • Knowledge about securing effective transition from EY to KS1
  • Competent user of ICT

Skills and Aptitudes

Interpersonal Skills – the candidate should be able to:-

- communicate effectively and clearly both written and verbally

- be able to work and within and motivate a small nursery team

- actively listen

- persuade and motivate

- praise and develop secure behaviour management skills

- be calm and supportive in their approach to children, staff and parents and sensitive to their needs

Curriculum Skills – the candidate will have:-

- the ability to monitor and evaluate the teaching and learning environment

- a commitment to the improvement of educational standards and results within school

- the ability to ensure tasks are completed on time & to seek advice when required

- vision, be forward looking and be an effective member of a team

Specific Requirements

  • Demonstrate a well constructed high standard of application demonstrating a high command of grammar, spelling & punctuation
  • A clear understanding of primary learning and assessment – especially early years expectations
  • Ability to form positive relationships with pupils
  • Knowledge and experience in effective planning and use of assessment and recording
  • Evidence of engaging parents in the learning process
  • A positive and understanding attitude to children with SEND
  • Understanding of the need to safeguard children and use robust procedures to protect and support them
  • Knowledge & commitment to Equal Opportunities
  • Have sensitivity to the diverse social, behavioural and emotional needs of children

Safeguarding
