What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to appoint a Class Teacher who:

  • Is a committed, energetic, and creative classroom practitioner.

  • Can model and demonstrate high-quality teaching and interactions with pupils to support their progress, addressing misconceptions swiftly.

  • Is willing to go the extra mile to ensure pupils experience rich, engaging, and inclusive learning.
  • Has experience of leading or supporting children from a range of contexts and with diverse needs.

And a SENDCo who:

  • Has achieved the National SENDCo Award or SEND NPQ, or is willing to undertake the SEND NPQ at the earliest opportunity.
  • Demonstrates a secure understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and the graduated approach to supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • Leads the day-to-day operation of SEND provision, ensuring robust systems for identification, assessment, and review across both campuses.
  • Uses assessment and whole-school data to monitor the progress and attainment of pupils with SEND, supporting teachers in setting ambitious yet achievable targets.
  • Provides professional guidance, support, and challenge to staff to ensure inclusive, high-quality teaching and effective use of resources.
  • Builds strong partnerships with pupils, families, external agencies, and colleagues to provide coordinated support and care.
  • Promotes early identification and timely intervention through effective provision mapping and the graduated response.
  • Supports staff in developing adaptive teaching strategies and provision that enable all pupils to access the full curriculum.
  • Contributes to the professional development of colleagues by leading training, sharing best practice, and modelling inclusive approaches.
  • Keeps up to date with research, legislation, and best practice in SEND, ensuring this informs whole-school policy and classroom practice.
  • Works collaboratively with the Deputy Headteacher for Inclusion to align SEND leadership with wider pastoral, safeguarding, and inclusion priorities.

Heathfield Primary and Nursery School are seeking to appoint a Class Teacher & Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo) to work across our 3.5-form entry, split-site school in Basford and Bulwell.

The successful candidate will work under the leadership of our Deputy Headteacher for Inclusion, taking a lead role in ensuring the highest quality provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs across both our Scotland Road and Kersall Drive campuses.

We are a wholly inclusive school that prides ourselves on our motto of ‘Thriving Together’, supporting pupils with a wide range of educational needs. We achieved the SEND Inclusion Award (SENDIA) in 2024 and were praised for our inclusive provision in both our Ofsted inspection (December 2024) and pilot inspection (September 2025).

This role includes a 0.3 FTE classroom teaching commitment, with the remainder of the week for SEND leadership and PPA time.
