Curriculum Leader of MFL job summary

We are seeking an ambitious and inspirational Curriculum Leader of MFL to lead and develop an engaging, high-performing Modern Foreign Languages provision. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and creative practitioner who is passionate about languages, committed to raising standards, and eager to shape the future of MFL within a growing and forward-thinking school.

As Curriculum Leader of MFL, you will be accountable for learner achievement across the department, leading teaching and learning to ensure excellent outcomes for all students. You will provide clear strategic direction for the MFL curriculum, ensuring it is ambitious, inclusive and responsive to student needs.

You will lead and line manage a team of staff, fostering a collaborative and high‑performing departmental culture built on shared practice, professional growth and collective responsibility for outcomes. Through effective use of assessment, data analysis and intervention, you will drive continuous improvement in teaching and learning and ensure robust quality assurance processes, including reporting to parents and departmental self‑evaluation and development planning.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner with a proven track record of raising achievement and securing strong progress at KS3 and KS4. You will have strong subject knowledge and a clear understanding of current curriculum developments and best practice in MFL.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • The ability to lead, motivate and inspire a team, with experience (or clear potential) in curriculum leadership
  • Expertise in curriculum development, assessment and the effective use of data to improve outcomes
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
  • Creativity, enthusiasm and resilience, with a positive and flexible approach to change
  • A commitment to professional development for yourself and others
