About the Role

As Deputy Headteacher – Curriculum and UTCness at UCS, you will lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of a broad, ambitious curriculum from Key Stage 3 through to Key Stage 5. You will champion the integration of UTC principles, blending technical and academic excellence to prepare pupils for future education and careers. The deputy headteacher role is non class based.

Key highlights of this role include:

  • Leading curriculum development that ensures progression, coherence, and inclusivity for all pupils
  • Enhancing teaching and learning through evidence-informed pedagogy, including retrieval practice and spaced learning
  • Promoting literacy, reading initiatives, and targeted interventions to close achievement gaps
  • Collaborating with university and employer partners to deliver a distinctive UTC experience
  • Supporting and developing teaching staff, fostering a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement
  • Contributing to strategic leadership, safeguarding, and community engagement across the Trust

You will be a highly visible and inspirational leader who builds strong relationships with staff, pupils, parents, and the wider community, fully embodying the values and ethos of the school and Trust and the Baker Dearing UTC Charter.
