Designated Safeguarding Lead job summary

Job Context

Moorland Primary school is situated in a significantly deprived area where 59% of pupils receive pupil premium. SEN is well above national with Communication and Interaction being our highest needs, followed by Social, Emotional, Mental Health . Persistence absence remains our biggest barrier. However, we work tirelessly to improve this and work closely with our families and other agencies to improve this.

Our Co-DSL’s will take lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection across the school (including online safety and understanding the filtering and monitoring systems in place). They will oversee the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring they are up-to-date and effective in keeping all children safe. Our DSL’s will take part in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings, and contribute to the assessment of children. They will advise and support other members of staff on child welfare, safeguarding and child protection matters, and liaise with relevant agencies such as the local authority and police. Some safeguarding activities may be delegated to our deputy DSL’s, but the DSL’s will retain ultimate lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection and be accountable for reporting to the headteacher.

Commitment to safeguarding

Children have a right to be cared for and protected, protecting them is everyone’s responsibility. Here at Moorland Primary School we have a duty of care to ensure that all users of the school are kept safe from harm. We have an ethos in which children and adults can feel safe, are valued, respected, and listened to. We will never lose sight of the needs of individual children and the duty to take action to safeguard them.
