Director of Professional Learning job summary

Dear candidate,

We are ambitious for every Astrea student to succeed and, by 2030, for every Astrea school’s performance to be in the top 5% of similar schools nationally. The only way to realise this ambition is through our people and this role is a brilliant opportunity for someone to take us to the next stage in doing so.

Our offer on the ‘golden thread’ of teacher training is strong: through our partnerships, we attract and develop some amazing professionals. Our secondary schools work closely with Teach First for Initial Teacher Training and the Early Careers Framework. Our primaries work with a number of local ITT providers and partner with Ambition Institute to deliver the ECF. We take a whole-trust approach to NPQs and we are the only current NPQ delivery partner in South Yorkshire. Our teams are also developing in-house aspiring principals programmes, with more opportunities to come as we develop.

This role will work with the primary and secondary directorates to amplify the success and support the coherence of that offer, whilst leading on defining a best-in-class offer for our support staff.

We know we need to go further for support staff to make the most of their potential, to illuminate them and to connect them with their purpose. There are brilliant examples of colleagues’ development journeys from a range of professions within Astrea – your role will be to help make ‘brilliant’ the baseline.

We also know that there is so much powerful expertise and skills development that can be common to all staff. This position will empower the right candidate to help deliver that for every employee, from classroom support to catering, premises to procurement and everything in between.

The project bringing all of these together we call ‘The Astrea Talent Programme’, which you will be pivotal in delivering across the trust and promoting well beyond.

If this sounds like a role that is of interest to you, we'd love to hear from you. Informal discussions are welcomes, as are visits to our academies and HQ if you are keen to learn more about us.

I look forward to receiving your application,

Regards

Taryn Edge

Director of People & Organisational Development
