What skills and experience we're looking for
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and caring Early Years Practitioner to join our team. This Early Years Practitioner post is based in the Children’s Centre at Sharrow School – within an innovative school building which incorporates purpose-built childcare provision for children from 3 months all the way through to 11 years.
The Children’s Centre is open from 8am and 5pm throughout the year (except at Christmas) and prides itself on offering a flexible provision to meet the needs of parents – with some children doing 2 or 3 mornings or afternoons a week during term-time, others doing a mixture of full and part-days and some attending full-time on an all year-round contract.
This is an all year-round position as the Children’s Centre team are also responsible for running the Sharrow After School Club for the children in Reception and Nursery, as well as the Holiday Club provision for children from across the school (Children’s Centre through to Year 6). Holiday entitlement therefore has to be taken in term-time rather than during the school holidays.

• Has a sound knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and knows how to meet children’s individual needs
• Can plan, monitor and evaluate child-care practices to maintain high standards
• Is able to work in partnership with parents, building and maintaining open and transparent relationships
• Can develop quality experiences which respond to the needs of children and families
• Is adapt at using effective strategies to support children with special education needs and children with language needs
• Is committed to our inclusive ethos and excited about the opportunity to work with older children as well as our under 3's.
What the school offers its staff
We can offer:-
• A vibrant, richly diverse school community
• A supportive and caring ethos where everyone is valued
• A school at the heart of its community
• An experienced EYFS and Children’s Centre team
• A fabulous building with great facilities

Sharrow is a 2 form entry primary school located just off London Road in Sheffield, serving the Sharrow area. A walk along the London Road will give you a flavour of the cultural and racial diversity of the community. The school serves an economically diverse area with housing ranging from large stone fronted Victorian properties in Nether Edge to privately-rented accommodation and Council flats. The school has a commitment to equality of opportunity for all learners and operates a vigorous inclusion policy.
All of the above contribute to creating a dynamic and diverse school community. We attach significant importance to developing children’s literacy and numeracy skills as well as their creative and expressive skills. We encourage children to develop their sporting abilities, we take part in many inter-school events and become involved in various sporting initiatives.
Our commitment to children’s good academic progress helps to ensure their future economic and social well-being. As part of this process, we encourage parents/carers to get involved with their child’s learning and work closely with parents/carers to help develop their own skills.
We have a purpose-built school building, with a children’s centre incorporated. We cater for children from 3 months to 11 years and provide learning opportunities for older children and adults out of school hours. This building has been designed and built to ensure that we are better able to meet the needs of the children and their families and enable us to develop our school philosophy - delivering a creative and exciting curriculum.
