Finance Apprentice job summary

Full-time, fixed-term for 1 year, 37 hours 52 weeks a year in the first instance

Hertswood Academy is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Finance Apprentice to join our team. This entry-level position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on financial experience while working towards an AAT qualification. You will support the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department, working closely with staff, suppliers, and the wider school community to deliver efficient financial administration.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Transactions: Process supplier invoices (HOGE), handle purchase orders, manage petty cash/credit card transactions, reconcile statements, and assist with chasing debtors and iPayimpact administration.

Communication & Support: Deal with financial queries from suppliers, staff, parents, and students via email, telephone, and in person. Liaise with premises staff regarding deliveries and assist with catering queries and income generation.

Apprenticeship Commitment: Dedicate time to progress through the AAT qualification via college or online learning (full training support provided).

School Ethos & Standards: Maintain high ethical standards, support a positive school culture, work within statutory frameworks, and uphold pupil welfare and behaviour expectations under the guidance of the Finance Manager and Headteacher.

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications: GCSE-level education (essential). Prior AAT study is desirable, but full training support will be provided.

Experience & Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word), with strong organisational and multi-tasking skills under tight deadlines.

Personal Attributes: Meticulous attention to detail, friendly and positive demeanour, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to confidentiality and school values.
