Rickmansworth School is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Head of Music to lead our vibrant and ambitious department. This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated and skilled educator to shape and develop the delivery of Music across all key stages, while playing a strategic role within our school community.
As Head of Department, you will be responsible for the leadership and ongoing development of a dynamic and inclusive music curriculum, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning that inspires creativity and enables students to achieve their full potential. You will lead a committed team of staff and oversee a wide-ranging extra-curricular programme, including ensembles, performances, and musical events, fostering a love of music across the school.

About the Music Department
The music department is highly regarded in the School. We have a set of rooms dedicated to music teaching, extra-curricular activities, and student practice.
At Rickmansworth School, 10% of our intake is selected based on musical aptitude, reflecting the strong emphasis we place on music education.
The music department consists of two full-time teachers, supported by a team of visiting peripatetic staff and a dedicated Performing Arts technician. The department is located in a purpose-built music block that was previously renovated and is extremely well-resourced.
Within the music block, there are two large, purpose-built classrooms equipped with extensive keyboard and percussion facilities, as well as interactive whiteboards to enhance the learning experience. Additionally, the department features a computer suite that includes Sibelius notation software, alongside a fully-equipped recording studio.
The department also boasts a wide array of musical resources, including various drum kits, electric pianos, upright pianos, a Steinway Grand piano, a full Samba set, West African Djembe and much more, all contributing to a rich and varied learning environment.

Selection Process:
We are required for only shortlisted candidates to conduct online searches about an applicant as part of our shortlisting process in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance 2024 in order to identify any incidents or concerns which are publicly available online. On signing the declaration on application you will be agreeing to the acknowledgement that such searches will be conducted as part of the shortlisting process.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the school where there will be a number of related tasks, details of which will be discussed on the day. Interviews will be held with the Headteacher and possibly another member of SLT. There will also be a tour of the school estate and this may be conducted by other members of the school community.

Rickmansworth School is an 11-18 heavily oversubscribed co-educational partially (35%) selective academy with nearly 1455 students on roll, increasing to around 1575 students over the next five years.
