What skills and experience we're looking for
The Governors of St Richard’s Catholic Primary School are looking to appoint an exceptional individual to become our Head of School. We are seeking an inspirational leader to drive the school forward, in collaboration with our Executive Headteacher, as it continues its journey to excellence. The successful candidate will be a committed Catholic with positive, dynamic and ambitious vision who has the ability to inspire those around them.
St Richard’s is a one and a half form entry school, with extensive internal and external space, located between the South Downs and the sea in the historic city of Chichester. The school is supported by a committed staff team, amazing children and supportive parents. The post holder will benefit from a safe, happy, caring environment which encourages pupils to take advantage of all opportunities offered in order to develop their full potential both personally and academically. The school is underpinned by a well-structured curriculum and Catholic values, striving to instil a love of learning across the community.
St Richard’s has started the journey to join the Bosco Catholic Education Trust, comprising Catholic primaries and secondary schools across Sussex. Each school retains its own identity, reflective of the community it serves, while enjoying the support of a strong trust team. The school achieved ‘Good’ in all areas in Ofsted 2022 and also enjoys an ‘Outstanding’ section 48 inspection grade.
We are looking to appoint an innovative leader who has:
- dedication to the vision, life and ethos of a Catholic primary school, through their devotion as a practicing Catholic
- clear vision and skills for the ongoing school improvement of the school
- excellent understanding of the primary curriculum
- a sharp focus on improving pupil progress
- a highly visible and approachable leadership style
- exceptional communication skills
- a commitment to excellent safeguarding procedures
- the ability to nurture positive relationships and trust with all stakeholders
- a proven track record of quality leadership resulting in high level of achievement for all
- the ability to work closely with other senior leaders and their schools
- the commitment to diversity and inclusivity, and wholehearted support of the excellence of opportunities and provision for our children with SEND, those eligible for PPG and for whom English is an additional language
What the school offers its staff
We can offer you:
- a happy atmosphere that offers a caring, safe and welcoming environment

- a supportive environment that promotes high expectations
- a site blessed with spacious indoor and outdoor areas
- a strong programme of leadership support delivered by experienced professionals
- an opportunity to further enrich the lives of our children and help them to grow through the love of Jesus
