What skills and experience we're looking for

Governors are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed and highly effective teacher to join the school as a Head of Year. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in leading, supporting and making a positive difference to a year group, ensuring all students thrive both academically and personally.

The successful candidate will have exceptionally high expectations for all students and be fully committed to ensuring that every young person is given the opportunity to succeed. They will provide strong leadership for their year group, promoting high standards of behaviour, attendance, punctuality and engagement with learning.

The Head of Year will work within the inclusion team to monitor and improve attendance and punctuality, particularly for students at risk of persistent absence. They will lead strategies to support, challenge and re-engage students, working in partnership with families to overcome barriers to learning.

The role will involve close collaboration with teaching staff, support staff and external agencies to ensure that all students receive an education appropriate to their needs. The successful candidate will play a central role in supporting vulnerable students and ensuring their wellbeing, progress and inclusion within the school community.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner with strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills. They will be able to prioritise effectively, manage a varied workload and respond proactively to challenges. Strong literacy, numeracy and IT skills (including the use of data systems, Word and Excel) are essential.

A relevant teaching qualification and QTS are required. Experience of pastoral leadership or working with students and families in a support capacity would be highly desirable.
