HR Advisor job summary

If you enjoy helping a manager work through a people issue as much as you enjoy bringing a busy recruitment campaign together, we’d like to hear from you. You’ll join a small, friendly HR team that shares the workload, talks through difficult cases and values the care it takes to get the details right.

What you’ll do

You’ll get to know staff and leaders across our schools and give practical advice on attendance, probation and performance. You’ll help managers with occupational health referrals and reasonable adjustments, take ownership of straightforward cases and work alongside the Head of HR on more complex matters. You’ll adapt your advice to each school while helping the Trust apply its policies consistently.

A substantial part of the role is organising and coordinating work that matters to staff. You’ll help managers prepare job adverts and recruitment packs, arrange interviews, keep candidates informed and make sure checks and paperwork are ready for new starters. You’ll also work with our Director of School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) to coordinate recruitment to the programme. If you take satisfaction in keeping several things moving, spotting what’s missing and following up so people know what happens next, you’ll find plenty to enjoy here.

You’ll share the team’s day-to-day administration, from maintaining accurate records and checking payroll changes to helping staff use our HR and payroll systems. You’ll also have scope to lead agreed projects from idea to delivery, whether that means setting up staff HR drop-ins, piloting a wellbeing initiative or designing a workshop that helps managers handle difficult conversations.

What you’ll bring

You’ll already have experience advising managers directly on routine HR issues and supporting more complex cases. You’ll be approachable, down to earth and clear in conversation and in writing. You’ll enjoy organising work, following through on agreed actions and getting the details right, whether you’re checking a payroll change or drafting a sensitive letter. You’ll know when to act and when to bring in the Head of HR.

Education HR experience is highly desirable. We also welcome relevant HR experience from the wider public or not-for-profit sector. You can meet the professional qualification requirement through CIPD Level 5, an equivalent HR qualification or equivalent advisory experience. Trust sponsorship is available to work towards Level 5.

What you’ll get at Chrysalis

We’ll support your development with a structured induction, ongoing CPD, access to coaching and CIPD sponsorship. You’ll have access to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), a dedicated staff wellbeing room, free use of the staff gym and confidential support through our Employee Assistance Programme. Regular staff social events give you a chance to get to know colleagues across the Trust, and free on-site parking is available at Claremont High School.

Help make Chrysalis a place where people feel respected, supported and able to do their best work. The difference starts with the conversations you have, the details you get right and the ideas you help put into practice.
