HR Officer job summary

HR Officer

Salary: £25,000-£35,000 (FTE) plus benefits including: Local Government Pension, Health Care Cash Plan, Generous Staff Discount scheme, at least one personal leave day per year.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced HR Officer. The HR Officer will provide a range of administrative and practical HR services to support the effective and efficient running of the school. Providing routine HR advice and processing transactional HR matters including recruitment, new starters and leavers, payroll changes. This role involves a high level of confidentiality, communication and sensitivity. The HR Officer will report into the Cluster HR Manager and work with colleagues at Accrington Academy and Marsden Heights Community College.

Key responsibilities include:

  • First point of contact for all HR-related queries, providing timely and professional responses.
  • Advise managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and best practices, ensuring compliance with employment law and company policy. For example, performance management, absence and employee relations.
  • Support Cluster HR Manager with investigations and disciplinary process.
  • Manage the onboarding (including inductions) and probation process for new hires, ensuring all documentation is completed, right to work compliance and inductions are conducted effectively.
  • Maintain and update the induction material to reflect changes in the business.
  • Advise on any probation concerns raised and supporting managers with extension process.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date HR records, including contracts and files.
  • Responsible for HR system accuracy (iTrent) and monthly reporting.
  • Coordinate and manage Occupational Health provision, within the school. Ensuring we are tailoring requests to specific absence circumstances

The successful candidate must:

  • Be an experienced HR professional
  • Someone who shares our moral purpose of ensuring that all of our young people receive the best education possible in a supportive environment from people who care about them.
  • Someone who has excellent organisational skills and knowledge of different ICT packages available.
  • Someone with a high standard of literacy and attention to detail.
