Human Resources Advisor job summary

Job Purpose: To deliver a comprehensive professional HR service to Trust Schools.

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Primary, and in collaboration with our external partners HFL HR, the post holder will support our Headteachers and Senior Leaders to manage Human Resources across all schools in our Trust. Driven forward through HR delivery, our ambition is to be an employer of choice, where we have an inclusive culture and our employees feel engaged, valued and included.

  1. To provide specialist HR advice across the range of employee relation matters such as Absence, Disciplinary, Performance Capability, TUPE, Grievance, Organisational Change and Recruitment. This will be in accordance with employment legislation and the Trust’s suite of HR policies and procedures.
  2. Pro-actively manage a HR Caseload regularly liaising with appropriate senior Trust Leaders to discuss and progress. To ensure accurate recording of all case work which may include minutes, emails, letters, witness statements.
  3. Develop and support the implementation of all HR policies and project activities of the HR service.
  4. Support with recruitment activities across our Trust.
  5. Ensure that Trust schools have required HR-related safeguarding checks in place and an up-to-date Single Central Register and HR Files.
  6. To provide statistical information and KPI data on both a regular and ad hoc basis, as requested to Schools and Leadership team, ensuring all data is up to date and accurate and responses are timely.
  7. Support HR colleagues and School Business Managers as required.
  8. Support an increase in People Manager Skills through day-to-day interactions and delivery of subject specific training, this will involve development of learning resources and toolkits.
  9. Actively demonstrate commitment to own continuous professional development CPD and knowledge of HR ‘best practice’.
  10. As an employee of The Diocese of Westminster Academy Trust, you may work from time to time in one or more of our schools to undertake other duties assigned by your line manager commensurate with job role and remit of responsibilities.

Essential Criteria:

Qualifications:

  • Maths and English at grade 4/C or above
  • CIPD Level5 qualification or equivalent GCSE (or equivalent).

Experience

  • Recent experience of working in a Human Resources Advisory role
  • Experience of recruitment and selection
  • Experience of undertaking complex HR case work across range of Employee Relations, which includes absence management, disciplinary, grievance, appraisal, capability, etc.
  • Experience of using initiative to plan and organising workload to meet conflicting demands
  • Experience of working with Trade Unions/Employee Representative

Skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively convey complex information to a wide variety of audiences, clearly and concisely
  • Ability to provide solution-based recommendations to senior leaders
  • Ability to research, produce detailed analysis and undertake evaluation of data
  • Demonstrable ability to create professional working relationships and work with staff at all levels including senior managers and other key stakeholders
  • Good ICT skills and ability to use MS office software

The successful applicant will be subject to relevant vetting checks, including a satisfactory enhanced disclosure before an offer of appointment is confirmed. Following appointment the employee will be subject to re-checking as required from time to time by the trust.
