Working alongside colleagues across the school, you will play an important part in supporting or delivering an efficient first aid as well as an administrative service that supports the SEND team.
About the Role
The Lead First Aid - Including SEND Administration Assistant role is an exciting addition to the Gloucester Academy team.
The duties and responsibilities in this job description are not restrictive and the post holder may be required to undertake any other duties from time to time. Any such duties should not however substantially change the general character of the post.
Main Purpose of the Role
As Lead First Aider in a school you will manage emergency and routine medical care for pupils and staff, oversee first aid supplies, coordinate student healthcare plans, maintain records and reports, ensure the school meets health and safety regulations in line with Government guidelines and lead the First Aid team.
As part of the SEND team you will play an important part in the smooth and efficient running of administrative duties and support for the SENDCO. You will provide comprehensive clerical, operational, and organisational support to the school's SENDCO and have a good understanding of the code of practice. This role will involve maintenance of the provision register and managing the clerical side of EHCP reviews.
Key aspects of the role include:
- To ensure that pupils and staff are assessed by yourself or the team for any First Aid needs , taking appropriate action in the event of an emergency and communicating with staff and parents as necessary
- To attend or coordinate the attendance to minor medical needs of pupils, such as administering plasters, ice packs etc as required, and look after pupils who feel ill.
- To inform the Head Teacher in the event of more serious medical concerns and make the necessary arrangements for parents to be contacted.
- To co-ordinate, administer and maintain Individual Health Care Plans for pupils with specific medical needs in conjunction with parents and any other relevant health care professionals.
- Annual Reviews: Managing the administrative side of the statutory Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) annual review process, including scheduling meetings and issuing invitations to parents, teachers, and external specialists.
- Management Information Systems (MIS): Inputting and managing sensitive student data using Bromcom.
- Point of Contact: Answering phone calls, emails, and face-to-face queries from parents or caregivers regarding their child’s special educational provisions.
We're Looking For Someone Who:
- Candidates will hold an HSE Approved First Aid at Work Qualification or be willing to undertake this and be successful in achieving it and keeping it up to date.
- Other relevant training will be essential including updating on defibrillator use and EpiPen use.
- Previous experience of working in a role involving first aid delivery and training.
- Administrative experience in a school or similar setting is desirable
- Relevant experience of working with SEND students
