What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and child-centred Learning Mentor to join our pastoral and safeguarding teams. This is a key role within our school, working with and alongside our Learning Mentor Level 2 to support children who may find aspects of school life challenging and working closely with families to ensure every child feels safe, included and able to thrive.

You will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils who need additional help to engage positively in school life.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with children to support their wellbeing, confidence and personal development.
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, carers and external professionals to provide consistent and effective support.
  • Contribute to the school’s safeguarding team, ensuring that children’s safety and wellbeing are always a priority.
  • Offer early help and guidance to families, developing positive relationships built on trust and open communication.
  • Promote emotional resilience, self-esteem and a sense of belonging through nurturing, inclusive practice.
  • Be an active and supportive member of both the pastoral and wider school teams.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about supporting children and helping them overcome barriers to learning.
  • Is approachable, empathetic and professional, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels - with children, parents, staff and outside agencies.
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding and is committed to keeping every child safe.
  • Works well as part of a team, but can also use their initiative to support individual pupils and families.
  • Demonstrates patience, flexibility and a genuine commitment to inclusion and equality.
