What skills and experience we're looking for

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted support 1:1 and in small groups to pupils with SEND, ensuring safety and access to learning
  • Support development and delivery of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and personal care programmes (including intimate care where required)
  • Promote pupil independence, self-esteem and positive behaviour using agreed strategies
  • Record and report pupil progress to teachers and SENDCo
  • Prepare resources and assist classroom staff
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues and contribute to the school’s Catholic ethos

The role will require you to work under the guidance of the SENDCo, Headteacher and class teacher and to participate in training and school life (including lunchtimes, trips and collective worship).

The successful candidates will have:

  • Recent experience supporting primary-aged pupils, ideally with SEND, in an education setting
  • Strong interpersonal skills: the ability to build warm, respectful relationships with pupils and families
  • The ability to work well as part of a team and to use your initiative when supporting learning activities
  • Good basic literacy and numeracy and confidence with everyday classroom technology (Word, Excel, online resources)
  • A calm, patient approach to behaviour management and a commitment to promoting pupils’ independence and dignity
  • A commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality and the school’s Catholic ethos
