What skills and experience we're looking for

Do you love being part of those early years when children are discovering who they are, building confidence and developing a lifelong love of learning?

Do you want to work in a school where every achievement matters, every child is known as an individual, and every day is full of opportunities to help young learners grow?

At Broadstone First School, we believe the foundations built in childhood last a lifetime. That’s why we’re looking for a Learning Support Assistant who is passionate about helping children flourish during these important early years. Whether it’s celebrating a child’s first breakthrough in reading, helping them navigate a friendship, encouraging them to persevere when something feels difficult, or simply offering reassurance when they need it most, you’ll play an important role in their journey.

This is a role for someone who finds joy in the small moments that make a big difference. The smile when a child finally understands a new concept. The pride in mastering a new skill. The growing confidence that comes from knowing someone believes in them.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting individual pupils and small groups to access learning and make positive progress.
  • Delivering planned learning activities that encourage independence, curiosity and confidence.
  • Helping children develop socially, emotionally and academically in a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
  • Supporting pupils with additional needs and helping remove barriers to learning.
  • Promoting children’s self-esteem, wellbeing and sense of belonging.
  • Encouraging positive play, friendships and active engagement during breaktimes and lunchtimes.
  • Monitoring progress and sharing observations to help ensure every child receives the support they need.
  • Contributing to the warm, welcoming and inclusive life of the school community.

Who we’re looking for

  • Someone who genuinely enjoys spending time with children and helping them thrive.
  • Kind, patient and nurturing, with a natural ability to make children feel safe, valued and understood.
  • Positive and encouraging, bringing enthusiasm and energy to each day.
  • A strong communicator who can build trusting relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
  • Calm and adaptable, able to support children through both successes and challenges.
  • Committed to inclusion and ensuring every child feels they belong.
  • A proactive team player who understands that the little things often make the biggest difference.
  • Passionate about helping children become confident, independent learners who are excited about the future.

What the school offers its staff

About us:

At Broadstone First School, we believe the foundations built in childhood last a lifetime. As part of the Southern Education Trust, we are a warm, nurturing and ambitious school educating children aged 4 to 9, where curiosity is encouraged, confidence is nurtured and a love of learning is developed from the very start of a child’s educational journey.

Joining Broadstone First School means becoming part of a dedicated and supportive team that is passionate about preparing children for ‘a life well lived’. You’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference during the formative years of a child’s development, helping to shape confident, resilient and enthusiastic learners within a school community where every child is known, valued and encouraged to flourish.

Why join us?

  • Comprehensive support, Induction and training package
  • We’re a supportive team who’ll have your back during the good, the bad, and the “Did that really just happen?” moments.
  • Professional development opportunities because we’re all about helping you grow, both as a person and in your ability to juggle six things at once!
  • A rewarding role where no two days are the same and every day makes a difference!
  • Free access to the Employee Assistance Programme and our Cycle to Work Scheme.
  • The opportunity to develop your career in a School, and within the Southern Education Trust – a growing Trust where our mission is “making lives better” and our values are kindness, collaboration and creativity.

At Broadstone First School, we know that it’s often the smallest acts of encouragement that have the greatest impact. A kind word, a listening ear or a moment of reassurance can help a child feel capable, confident and ready to take on the world.

If you share our belief that every child deserves to feel valued, supported and inspired, we’d love you to join our school family and be part of helping children prepare for a life well lived.
