We have five vacancies for Learning Support / Teaching Assistant. This area of the College is high profile with an excellent record of success in the wider achievements of our students.

Reporting to our SENCO, we are seeking an enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join a highly performing and dedicated team. You will already have experience and enjoy both the challenge and reward of working with children who experience learning difficulties. You should be prepared to work with students across the age range, and students with significant physical disabilities. You will have the ability to work with the team in the preparation of individual learning plans and learning resources. You will be joining a highly performing team with a proven track record of delivering excellent results.

• Contract: Permanent Contract, Full-time 40.75 hours per week
• Working hours: Monday – Thursday 8.15am – 4.30pm and Friday 8.15am – 3.30pm

Person specification

The person we are looking for should have:
Qualifications and experience

Essential:
• Experience of working with children
• Experience of working in a college environment
• Good numeracy, literacy and communication skills
• Level 2 (GCSE) minimum qualification in English, Mathematics + 3 other qualifications at grade C or higher

Desirable:
• Experience delivering literacy based interventions
• Familiarity with exam specifications
• Good knowledge of ICT to support learning

Knowledge and understanding

• Ability to read, write & understand basic reports
• Ability to communicate information clearly and coherently; ability to listen effectively
• Overcome communication barriers with children and adults
• Consult with children and their families and carers and other adults
• Understand and implement the college’s behaviour management & anti-bullying policy
• Ability to understand and support children with developmental difficulty or disability
• Ability to establish rapport and respectful and trusting relationships with children, their families and carers and other adults
• Ability to work effectively and positively with a range of adults
• Respect confidentiality. Know when, how and with whom to share information
• Participate in annual performance appraisal constructively and positively

Desirable:

Job description
Duties of role will include:

• Establish positive relationships with students supported.
• Support students with activities which support literacy and numeracy skills
• Support the use of ICT in the classroom and develop students’ competence and independence in its use
• Promote positive student behaviour in line with College policies and help keep students on task
• Interact with, and support students, according to individual needs and skills
• Promote the inclusion and acceptance of children with special needs within the classroom ensuring access to lessons and their content through appropriate clarification, explanation and resources
• Participate in planning and evaluation of learning activities with the teacher, providing feedback to the teacher on student progress and behaviour
• Monitor and record student activities as appropriate writing records and reports as required
• Provide feedback to students in relation to attainment and progress under the guidance of the teacher
• To support learning by arranging/providing resources for lessons/activities under the direction of the teacher
• To attend to students’ personal needs including help with social, welfare and health matters, including minor first aid.
• To assist with the preparation, maintenance and control of stocks of materials and resources.
• Assist with the development and implementation of individualised programs, e.g. Education & Health Care Plan (EHCP)
• Liaise with other staff and provide information about students as appropriate
• To attend Parents’ evenings and relevant College information evenings
• To assist with the display and presentation of students’ work
• To assist with escorting students on educational visits.
• Any other duties as directed by the Principal, SENCO, or Deputy SENCO.
