What skills and experience we're looking for

  • A passion for reading, literacy, and promoting a love of books among young people.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage and maintain a school library effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Experience working in a library, educational setting, or customer service environment.
  • Ability to support students in selecting appropriate reading materials and developing independent learning skills.
  • Knowledge of library management systems and cataloguing procedures (desirable).
  • Good ICT skills, including Microsoft Office applications and online research tools.
  • Ability to organise and promote reading initiatives, author visits, book fairs, and literacy events.
  • Experience of supporting literacy development and encouraging reading for pleasure (desirable).
  • Strong administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and use initiative.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching and support staff to support the school's literacy and curriculum objectives.
  • A proactive, enthusiastic, and approachable manner with a genuine commitment to supporting student achievement and wellbeing.
  • GCSE English and Mathematics (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent; a library or information management qualification is desirable but not essential
