Lunchtime Assistant job summary
Purpose of the job
Lunchtime Assistants supervise our children over the lunchtime period ensuring they eat and play well. They are responsible for ensuring the physical and emotional welfare of the children.
Reporting to
Lunchtime Supervisor
Main responsibilities
- To encourage good standards of behaviour and monitor the behaviour of pupils in accordance with the school’s behaviour management policy.
- Observe school security and health and safety arrangements.
- Provide welfare support to pupils (first aid duties if trained).
- To engage children in developmental play.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Promote healthy eating habits.
- Putting lunchtime tables in place and cleaning down the tables before the children come in to eat.
- Helping children with their lunch, packed at home or purchased in school, in a socially acceptable way.
- Encourage children to eat their food and reporting concerns to their supervisor.
- Promote children in taking responsibility for ensuring they tidy up for themselves.
- Clearing after the children have finished eating.
- Supervising the children at play and arbitrating in minor disputes that may occur.
- Supervising children in classrooms or hall in the event of a wet lunch time.
- If the post holder is first aid trained, undertake first aid duties as per lunchtime supervisor
- If not first aid trained, arrange for child/ren to be seen by the appropriate first aider.
- Arranging for disruptive children to be seen by a member of SLT in more serious cases of unsociable behaviour.
- To encourage and participate in playground activities in order to develop positive play.
- Carry out basic cleaning tasks e.g. mopping, sweeping, wiping tables & clearing plates and cutlery.
- Putting away of lunchtime tables to clear the dining hall in order sweep through the hall area.

promoting and safeguarding students’ wellbeing;
showing tolerance of and respect for the rights of others and promoting a culture of inclusion.
General responsibilities
Have a proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practice of the Academy and Trust.
Have an understanding of, and always act within, the relevant professional standards and statutory frameworks. This includes those relating to Health & Safety, security, confidentiality and data protection.
