What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint a proactive, enthusiastic and experienced/quick-learning Moving and Handling Training Officer, with a strong background/interest in the field of Physical Disability and SEND. The post holder will work under the direction of the Senior Leadership Team to support staff to enable children and young people with a physical disability to access learning safely and comfortably. This is a permanent full-time post, to start on Monday 23 February 2026.

The school would welcome applications from experienced IOSH-accredited candidates, but would also be very interested to hear from candidates with a strong background in moving and handling who would consider themselves confident and competent enough to undertake the 5-day IOSH training and to be able to perform effectively in this role very swiftly. Under the direction of the Senior Leadership Team, the focus of this post is to design, review, develop, deliver and evaluate Moving and Handling training for all colleagues within the school. It is also to provide ongoing advice and support, which includes writing, reviewing and evaluating pupil-specific Moving and Handling Plans, and offering follow-up advice, guidance and training for staff, as appropriate, to ensure safe moving and handling practice at all times. The school actively promotes effective multi-disciplinary team partnerships, and the post holder is responsible for ordering and maintaining school-owned specialist moving and handling equipment, as appropriate; this includes regular monitoring and servicing. The successful candidate will be expected to be proactive in seeking and developing their own professional learning. The postholder will be expected to observe the school’s policies and procedures, including Safeguarding and Health and Safety; they will also need to undertake an enhanced DBS check.

What the school offers its staff

Oak Field School is a Special School for 166 pupils aged 3-19 with a wide range of learning and physical disabilities, broadly SLD (severe learning difficulties) and PMLD (profound and multiple learning difficulties). The majority of our pupils access learning and daily activities using a wide range of supportive equipment such as wheelchairs, specialist seating, standing frames, Acheeva beds, and fixed and mobile hoists.

Working hours for this post are 8.20am-4.20pm (3.50pm on Fridays), with 30 minutes lunchbreak.
