John Betts Primary School is a voluntary-aided, non-denominational, mixed primary school for five- to 11-year-olds. It is located in Hammersmith, West London, and has about 210 pupils.
The school can trace its roots back to 1859, when local doctor John Betts created a trust in order to build a school. It is one of only two non-denominational voluntary-aided schools in London.
Values and vision
John Betts Primary School aims to develop confident pupils ready to embrace the opportunities of secondary education and beyond. Teachers aim to ensure every pupil becomes skilled and competent in language and maths, placing particular emphasis on the importance of reading. Children are taught to understand the world more broadly, harness their creativity and appreciate human achievements.
Pupils are introduced to new ideas as well as established concepts, skills and knowledge. John Betts encourages them to think rationally, logically, and to question. The school emphasises the importance of respecting others’ values and of being cooperative, polite and considerate. It aims to achieve these objectives through skilled teaching in a friendly, stimulating and nurturing environment.
