PE & Vocational Studies Teacher job summary

Vocational Teacher

EBN Academy, Yardley, Birmingham
Salary: MPS/UPS - dependent on experience
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Possible TLR: Careers Lead for the right candidate

Make a difference through vocational education

EBN Academy is looking for an enthusiastic and committed Vocational Teacher to join our team and help deliver an engaging, practical and ambitious curriculum for young people aged 13-16.

We are an Alternative Provision school where many of our students have found mainstream education challenging. Our aim is to re-engage young people in learning, raise their aspirations and ensure they leave us with the qualifications, skills and confidence they need for their next steps.

Our students work towards a combination of GCSE and vocational qualifications, and vocational learning is an important part of our curriculum offer.

About the role

This is an opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about vocational education and understands how practical, relevant learning can motivate and engage young people.

You will plan and deliver high-quality vocational lessons, adapting your teaching to meet a range of individual needs, abilities and starting points. You will assess and monitor progress, provide meaningful feedback and create a positive learning environment where students are encouraged to achieve high standards.

You will also contribute to the ongoing development of our vocational curriculum, ensuring that courses remain relevant to our students, appropriate awarding bodies and the wider aims of the Academy.

Working within an Alternative Provision setting means that relationships matter. We are therefore looking for someone who can combine strong teaching with patience, consistency and high expectations, and who can engage students who may previously have struggled to succeed in education.

What we are looking for

The successful candidate will be a qualified teacher with relevant classroom experience and strong subject knowledge. You will be able to motivate and inspire students, maintain high expectations for behaviour and achievement, and work effectively as part of a wider teaching and pastoral team. Experience within Alternative Provision or an SEMH setting would be an advantage but is not essential.

We would particularly welcome applications from candidates who can bring breadth and flexibility to our vocational curriculum and who are interested in developing opportunities that connect classroom learning with future education, training and employment.

Additional Careers leadership opportunity

For the right candidate, there is also the opportunity to take on a TLR for leading Careers across the Academy.

This would include developing our careers programme in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks, building relationships with employers, colleges and apprenticeship providers, organising careers and work-experience opportunities, supporting students with post-16 choices and monitoring student destinations.

This is an additional responsibility rather than the main focus of the post, so we would also welcome applications from strong vocational teachers who may not currently have careers leadership experience.

Why EBN Academy?

You will join a small, committed team where you can have a direct impact on students' experiences and outcomes. We offer continued professional development and the opportunity to contribute to a curriculum designed around the needs of young people who require something different from mainstream education.
