Peripatetic Music Tutor (Brass) job summary

About the Department

Our music department is thriving, with over 50 students currently enrolled in instrumental and vocal tuition.

We host a packed annual calendar of events, including large-scale school concerts, brass ensembles, and major musical productions.

You will join a dedicated team of peripatetic staff working together to keep music at the heart of our school culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality individual and small-group brass lessons across lower and upper brass (trumpet, cornet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba).
  • Prepare students for graded practical examinations (ABRSM, GCSE) and ensemble performances.
  • Lead or assist with school brass groups, band rehearsals, and pit bands for school musicals.
  • Track student development, provide constructive feedback, and encourage participation in whole-school music events.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience teaching brass instruments to secondary school students (Ages 11-18). (desirable)
  • Expertise on the trumpet and a range of brass instruments (essential)
  • Ability to direct or support student ensembles and pit orchestras. (desirable)
  • Degree in Music/Brass Performance, Grade 8 or professional qualification. (essential)
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one prior to start date).
